Pakistani artists are approached by the Indian production houses themselves: Javed Sheikh
Veteran actor, Director and producer Javed Sheikh joined Doctor Moeed Pirzada for an exclusive interview at Tonight With Moeed Pirzada to discuss the dependence of Pakistani Cinema on Indian films, the ban on Pakistani artists by Indian Producer’s association and the talent vacuum in the Indian Billion Dollar film industry.
Mr. Javed Sheikh said that Pakistani artists wish to perform in India.
“Bollywood is a very big industry with better wages. Everyone wants to grow. The Indian film industry has better equipment and better opportunities. Pakistani artists always avail any opportunities presented to them. But they do not approach the Indian industry themselves. We get calls from Bollywood and we are requested to go and perform for specific roles. The public perception that Pakistani artists approach Indian producers is completely false”.
The actor said that the ban on the Pakistani artists was imposed under political pressure.
“Ofcourse they were pressurized. This sort of ban comes with damages at both ends. Bollywood is worth billions of dollars on its own, but they gather a lot of revenue from here. Conversely, Pakistani cinema is dependent on the Indian films. So both sides suffer when there are rifts liken these.
Javaid Sheikh exclaimed that Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan were not in India when they were threatened by the Shiv Sena.
“This is completely untrue! Fawad and Mahira were in Karachi at the time this happened. And there is nothing to say that Mahira’s Shahrukh Khan starrer Raees will not be released. It will be released as per schedule, as Fawad Khan’s Ae dil hai mushkil was released. These artists have a very strong fan following in India”
Javed Sheikh said that a Pakistani film Mah-e-Mir has been nominated for the Oscar award.
“This is a big step forward! Pakistani movies like Dukhtar and Moor have gained international recognition. A lot of multiplexes have been opening. The Pakistani cinema is on the rise. There are around 60-70 films in the making currently which will be released subsequently”.

Dr Junaid said that since 45 years many foreign authors had been writing on the fall of Dhaka and on various Myths, which were not covered by Pakistani writers that what actually happened.
Deprivation of Bengalis started since their demand for making Bengali as national language was not addressed till 1956, many people died during this movement. Till 1971 there was not a single East Pakistani Chief Secretary there, Investments on Jute mills was by West Pakistani investors and all top managerial posts were for West Pakistanis, while Bengalis were appointed as a labor force.
Dr Junaid also shattered the myth of 93000 troops; that is totally false, it was actually 34000 troops and rest were civilians who were from West Pakistan, and they were either non combat, para-medic, civil servants, their families or personal servants. It was good for them to become prisoners of war, otherwise they could have gotten killed. Genocide by Bengalis was actually started in March when Shiekh Mujib ordered for violent protests and many West Pakistanis got killed in that. Mukti bahni was also supported by 50 thousand Indian Army personals.
Dr Pirzada raised the question that whether Indian understanding is better than us in shaping the narrative? Pakistanis also have understanding but working on the understanding to shape the narrative is a separate thing which lacks in Pakistanis. Everyone sacrifices the national interest before their self interests, said Dr Juanid
